Ryerson announced on Tuesday that its spring convocation ceremonies will be held in person in June, for the first time since the pandemic began in 2020.
The university will also welcome back graduates from the 2020 and 2021 academic years to participate in the ceremonies.
According to the announcement, more than 23 convocation ceremonies will be held at the Mattamy Athletic Centre from June 13-24.
Ryerson was forced to move the ceremonies online in June 2020, hosting events like coffee with president Mohamed Lachemi and chancellor Janice Fukakusa and airing the ceremony over YouTube.
The school also held a contest on social media in 2020, asking graduates to post memories about Ryerson with the #RUgrad2020 hashtag for a chance to win Indigo gift cards.
The ceremony was held online again in 2021, where Nobel Peace Prize winner Malala Yousafzai, amongst others, was given an honorary doctorate.
Lachemi expressed his excitement for the ceremony, saying it’s an important day for students, their families and loved ones.“I am looking forward to celebrating with our graduates in person this year,” Lachemi said. “To see our students cross the stage for the first time since fall 2019 will be a wonderful moment.”
According to the announcement, invitations will be sent to graduates in April and the ceremonies office will then confirm regulations, including capacity and how many guests are allowed.
More details and updates can be found on the convocation website.
