With a matter of days until the Toronto Metropolitan University Students’ Union (TMSU) election voting period from Nov. 24-26, campus bulletin boards have become an integral part of the candidates’ campaign aspirations. Here, we take a closer look at the runners’ posters as they fight for both a win — and advertisement space.

Team Forward’s campaign flyer clings to the corner of this Library bulletin, tucked behind a row of lockers and nearly concealed from the public’s view. (OTR / Jess Bertan)

With a number of advertisement boards located outside the library, there were no shortages of platforms to campaign, though many posters seem to go unnoticed by passersby, who walked in and out of the library with a sense of final exam urgency. (OTR / Jess Bertan)

Team Forward and Team Zenith jockey for ad space at the entrance to Kerr Hall. Worth noting is the variation in stationary used for the team’s election posters. Some, like Team Forward, opted for larger, glossy prints. Others, like Team Zenith, stuck with standard printer paper for a more cost-effective option. (OTR / Jess Bertan)

Team forward places their poster front and centre at the entrance to Jorgenson Hall. Student voters can take note of the election dates printed on the flyer: Nov. 24-26 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. (OTR / Jess Bertan)

Campaigning around communal student spaces, like Hub Café, ensures students can stay up-to-date on election details on their lunch break. Most election campaign flyers feature QR codes and social media handles to aid student voters in making their decision. (OTR / Jess Bertan)
bulletin board on the wall in stairwell
The library’s stairwells feature a bulletin board on nearly every floor, each one plastered with advertisements for student campaigns, campus groups, and upcoming events. As a result, there is an exceedingly high concentration of election posters in this location. (OTR / Jess Bertan)

The Service Hub may be where students go to seek academic assistance, but the poster boards situated outside provide plenty of reading material while they wait. (OTR / Jess Bertan)
Flyers taped to wall and pinned to bulletin board
Kerr Hall West showcases its fair share of campaign advertising, with posters lining the walls. Amidst flyers for the TMU rowing team and math tutoring, Team Zenith makes use of the free bulletin space, though their advertisement seems to get lost in the sea of postings. (OTR / Jess Bertan)
Posters overlap on bulletin board
Team Zenith, Team AB Squared and Shammis Jumah Ali all campaign in Kerr Hall South. The flurry of posters concentrated in singular areas on campus may be due to the fact that advertisement restrictions vary by location. According to the TMSU office, apart from the main bulletin on the ground floor, the majority of floors in the SLC do not allow postings. (OTR / Jess Bertan)
