The energy at the Mattamy Athletic Centre was electric as the Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU) Bold women’s and men’s basketball teams won their semi-final games to book their spots in the finals of the Critelli Cup and the Wilson Cup, respectively.

The women’s team kicked off the night in commanding fashion. Guards Myriam Kone and Kait Nichols scored 24 points and 20 points, respectively, to carry the Bold to a record-breaking win of 97 to 38.

It is the largest margin of victory and the most points scored in the team’s postseason history.

The Bold fans were treated to a comfortable victory from the start. However, fans had to defend their home court as the Brock Badgers did not come alone for the men’s game. The MAC was filled with an unusual sea of red as the Brock supporters made the trip to support their men’s team against the Bold.

It proved to not be enough, though, as the men’s team defended home court and sent Brock home with a winning score of 77 to 64.

Guard Aaron Rhooms’ game-high 27 points and Deandre Goulbourne’s 17 points proved to be too much for the Badgers on the night.

Last night’s results have now set up the Bold for a doubleheader finals matchup against the same school.

The Carleton Ravens also won both their semi-final matchups and will travel to the Mattamy Athletic Centre on Saturday on what is set to be a huge day for the TMU Bold.

The Bold have done it before, winning both the Critelli Cup and Wilson Cup together back in the 2015/16 season. 10 years later, they have the chance to do it again.

The women’s final tips off at 3 p.m. and the men’s game starts at 7 p.m. on Feb. 28.
