The Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU) Bold men’s hockey team has secured its spot in the 2025 OUA Queen’s Cup Championship, defeating the University of Toronto in a hard-fought series. The Bold will face the Concordia Stingers on Saturday, March 15, at 6:15 p.m. at the Mattamy Athletic Centre (The MAC), with the hope of claiming their first Queen’s Cup title.

After a thrilling series win over the U of T Varsity Blues, TMU head coach Johnny Duco reflected on his team’s performance. “U of T gave us everything they had, and we respect them a lot,” Duco said. “I’m really proud of our guys for sticking together. We’ve overcome a lot of adversity this year, and they found a way to get it done in a tough environment.”

The Bold’s return to the Queen’s Cup marks a year since their heartbreaking loss in last season’s final. Team captain Chris Playfair emphasized the lessons learned from that experience. “Last year was the first time we’ve been in a championship game, and we learned a lot. It’s a game of inches, and one or two mistakes in overtime cost us,” Playfair said. “We know the margin for error is small, and we’re focusing on being as prepared as possible.”

Forward Kevin Gursoy expressed excitement at another shot at the Queen’s Cup. “It feels good to be back, especially after last year’s tough loss,” Gursoy said. “We’re just focused on staying in the moment and preparing for a tough Concordia team. Our team is in a much better place now, and we’re excited for the challenge.”

Duco emphasized the importance of focusing on execution and confidence heading into the big game. “We believe in our guys,” Duco said. “The preparation is crucial, but so is staying loose and playing confidently. If we play at our level, we can compete with anyone.”

With a strong fan base behind them, Playfair is optimistic about the home-ice advantage. “Having our students and fans there makes a huge difference. The energy they bring, especially in the UofT series, really gave us a boost. We hope they can bring that same energy for this game,” Playfair said.

TMU students must present their OneCard for free entry at the game, and the general public must purchase tickets online. If you’re unable to make it to the MAC, the final will be streaming on OUA TV.
